Selecting a learning management system is difficult, especially when considering how many options are in the market. You need something that scales accordingly with your needs.

Before you start looking at different platforms, create a list of all the requirements they should meet. If it doesn’t, you can simply look at other options.

It’s always good practice to evaluate your own needs before looking at different learning management systems. Consider the following five factors before selecting a management system.

Five Key Factors to Consider When Selecting a Learning Management System

1. Depth of Analytics

It’s essential that you first evaluate the depth of analytics you want to present to your learners. What kind of data do you want to give to your learners?

More importantly, how much detail do you want to see for yourself? Ideally, the LMS should show you details regarding completion reports, grades, and the number of logins. Other data, such as the time of submission, should also be included.

2. Scalability

As the number of people taking your course grows, so will your requirements. You must evaluate whether the LMS will handle the additional load or if there will be any limitations due to the increased user load.

For instance, will the LMS be able to manage a heavy user count? It might be a wise idea to check out a few reviews before deciding.

3. Flexibility

How flexible is the LMS? Is a mobile app available? Is the framework responsive? It’s common knowledge that most people use their mobile phones to access different learning materials, so your LMS should run on various devices. Flexibility is an important element you need to consider.

The LMS you choose should offer support for all browsers, and ideally, there should be a dedicated mobile app for two of the most popular mobile platforms: iOS and Android. If it doesn’t, you might have to look at other options.

4. Enrolment

How the learning management system handles enrollment will play a key role in your decision to implement it. Ideally, the enrolment process should be as smooth as possible, with little friction.

You don’t want people second-guessing their decisions; you want them to join your course with as few steps as possible. Ensure that the LMS handles enrollment easily and sends an acknowledgment to the user automatically once they register.

5. Payment Methods

You also need to make sure that the payment methods supported are diverse. Users should be able to pay through a myriad of different options, including directly with their credit or debit cards, as well as via third-party payment processors such as PayPal.

Purchase options should be aplenty, and you should also be able to bundle different courses.

Ideally, you will want as much flexibility with payment methods as possible. Ensure that the platform gives you options to offer discounts, add multiple courses in a bundle, or hold limited-time deals for promotional purposes.

This flexibility will make it easy for you to promote your courses to customers and gain more traction.

Even though there are several other features to keep in mind, you must consider these five critical ones. If the LMS lacks any of these features, it might not be a good fit for your business interests.
